How to Determine Whether the Formaldehyde in the Water Exceeds the Standard?
Date:2025-01-03 Browse: 3

When it comes to formaldehyde, everyone must be familiar with it. Because it is very common in life, for example, some materials in the decoration of new houses contain formaldehyde. Then, as a water quality online monitoring instrument manufacturer, we will understand the monitoring problem of formaldehyde in water.

Formaldehyde is an organic chemical, chemical formula is HCHO or CH₂O, molecular weight 30.03, also known as myrmecaldehyde. It is colorless and irritating gas, which has a stimulating effect on the eyes and nose.

The source of formaldehyde in drinking water is mainly the discharge of industrial wastewater and the i product of oxidation of natural organic matter (humus) in water during ozonation and chlorination. A certain amount of formaldehyde can be produced by pyrolysis of organic matter in water.

According to the formaldehyde test method of the new Standard Test Method for Drinking Water (GB5749-2006), the 4-amino-3-hydraamine-5-mercapto-1, 2, 4-triazolene (AHMT) reagent was purified, and the 4-amino-3-hydraamine-5-mercapto-1, 2, 4-triazolene (AHMT) was dissolved in an alkaline aqueous solution. After adding an appropriate amount of hydrochloric acid solution, 4-amino-3-hydraamine-5-mercapto-1, 2, 4-triazene (AHMT) crystallized, and then filtered and dried. The test was carried out according to the operation steps of the formaldehyde determination method in the new Standard Test Method for Drinking Water (GB5749-2006). The process of adding the reagent was fully shaken, and the reaction time of adding the 4-amino-3-hydrazine – 5-merhydryl -1, 2, 4-triazolene (AHMT) reagent was correspondingly increased to 30min. The reaction time was increased to 15min after adding potassium periodate.

Therefore, the formaldehyde content in water can not be underestimated, if there is excessive formaldehyde in drinking water, we must take reasonable measures in time to purify drinking water until the standard is reached, and we are responsible for our health.

So What Method Can Be Used to Determine the Formaldehyde in the Water?

This time HCHO-8000 formaldehyde online analyzer plays a great role! The instrument is an automatic on-line analyzer controlled by an embedded system, which can be applied to real-time on-line monitoring of formaldehyde content in various water quality. After the sample is filtered, it is pumped into the reactor. First, the masking agent is injected to eliminate the interfering substances, then the acidity of the solution is adjusted to make the solution have a suitable pH, and then the characteristic color developing agent is added to react with formaldehyde in the water for color development, and the absorbance of the reactants is measured. The content of formaldehyde in the sample is calculated by the size of absorbance.
