It is understood that the Ministry of Health and China’s standardization management department have made certain amendments to the previous standards, and issued a new new standard “Drinking water sanitation standard” (GB5749-2006). This is an amendment to the Drinking Water Standard issued in 1985.
Features of the new standard:
1.Strengthen the demand for organic matter and microorganisms in water quality. The index of drinking water quality in the new standard has changed from 35 to 106, and 71 items have been added.
2.Harmonization of sanitary standards for drinking water in urban and rural areas;
3.To achieve international standards for drinking water, the selection of new standard water quality items and index values takes full account of the actual situation, and refers to the World Health Organization’s “Drinking Water Quality Standards”, referring to a number of international drinking water standards.

The standard specifies the requirements of drinking water quality health and safety, drinking water source water quality health requirements, centralized water supply related needs, involving drinking water health and safety products health requirements, drinking water quality monitoring and water quality testing methods.
